Before, experts believed that heel spurs are the cause of this condition. However, recent findings show that heel spurs are actually the outcome of plantar fasciitis. Since almost ninety five out of one hundred people suffering from heel pain gets cured without going through surgery, most doctors tend to advice nonsurgical means before taking the surgical route. Plantar fasciitis surgery is usually the choice made by athletes especially if the heel pain greatly affects their performance. This type of surgery is also recommended if after trying nonsurgical treatments, plantar symptoms gradually become worse.
Research says that about 70% of sufferers of plantar fasciitis are also being diagnosed with heel spur, which can only be seen through an X-ray. It is also been said that 50% of patients who are not experiencing the symptoms of plantar fasciitis are sufferers of heel pain. Certain activities and habits can cause a person to experience heel spurs symptoms. Excessive use of feet like running, jumping or standing for long hours, can cause heel pains. Overweight people are also the common victims of heel spurs since the heel bone will have to support the massive weight of the body.
